#GS001 Big Bluestem Seed

Big Bluestem (andropogon gerardii), the largest of the tallgrasses, was once the most abundant grass of the prairie. A warm-season drought resistant perennial that prefers full sun and well-drained loamy soils. Food source for insects and some birds. Good cover for a variety of small game (even deer in the fall) and ground nesting birds. Mature plants grow to a height of 3 to 10 feet (1-3 meters) with purple/blue stems. The seed heads have three to four spikes that resemble a "Turkey's Foot" (another common name for big bluestem grass). Big bluestem is excellent summer forage for wild or domestic animals. Takes 3-4 seasons to fully mature. Seeding Rate: 12 pounds per acre. One half ounce contains approximately 5,000 seeds and covers around 114 SQ FT (or an area of 10.5' X 10.5'). Prices are in U.S. currency and include shipping & handling fees. We will pay your Michigan sales tax! We only ship inside the continental United States.
