#GS002 Little Bluestem Seed

Little bluestem (Andropogon scoparius) AKA alkali grass and desert saltgrass, is the most common and hardy of the prairie grasses. A warm-season drought resistant perennial that prefers full sun and moderately well drained, loamy soils of low to medium fertility. Food source for insects and some birds. Good cover for a variety of small game and ground nesting birds. Mature plants grow to a height of 1-3 feet. Starts growing in late spring, with seeds developing and maturing in August. Little bluestem is spring forage for wild or domestic animals when it is young and green. It is resistant to trampling and spreads quickly. Take 2-3 seasons to fully mature. Seeding Rate: 12 pounds per acre. One half ounce contains approximately 5,000 seeds and covers around 114 SQ FT (or an area of 10.5' X 10.5').
