Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans) is one of the most stately of the tallgrasses. A warm-season perennial with good drought tolerance that prefers full sun and moderately-drained soils with low to medium fertility. Food source for birds and small mammals. Good cover for a variety of small game (even deer in the fall) and ground nesting birds. Mature plants grow to a height of 4-8 feet and the seed heads are a chestnut brown color. Indian grass is a good food source and excellent summer forage for wild or domestic animals. Takes 3-4 seasons to fully mature. Seeding Rate: 10 pounds per acre. One half ounce contains approximately 5,500 seeds and covers around 137 SQ FT (or an area of 11.5' X 11.5'). Prices are in U.S. currency and include shipping & handling fees.
