One folk art hippie guitar circa 1970 painted by an unknown artist named "Ticknor" who once lived in the City of Detroit. Found in an abandoned H.U.D. house in the early 1970's. This house was full of artist's oil painting supplies and some unfinished paintings signed "Ticknor". This guitar is in sad shape and unplayable. The painted stain finish is flaking off, the neck is broken at the mount, the nut bridge is missing, an internal support piece is floating around inside the body and it’s missing three string pegs below the bridge. Frankly I wouldn't pay a nickel for the guitar as an instrument, but as a piece of pop history that is now 35 years old, it is a valuable collectors item. The front of the body is colorfully painted in artist’s oils that classify this as an "oil paint on wood panel" artwork as well as a relic of the hippie era. The design has to be considered from the "hip" point of view and requires some deciphering to be completely appreciated. The design is a stars and stripes motif covered with 70's era pop icon symbols. On the top left are the "black power" fist, a large peace sign, the year it was painted (as a price tag), and a sun over the zodiac signs of Scorpio, Pisces, and Libra. Below these is the acronym "Z.P.G." for "Zero Population Growth". In the top center, over the acoustic hole, is the acronym "F.T.A." which stands for "F_ _ k the Army". On the right is the Nazi swastika, with Ankh symbol and the playboy "bunny" logo above the male and female signs. A flower (flower power) is above the Christian cross and the Star of David. The acronym "S.T.P." stands for a popular illegal street drug. At the bottom of the body, in a deep blue star field are 19 stars, a moon, a Saturn-like planet, and a rocket ship; surrounding the words "Ticknor (the artist's name) is a Warm Happiness". It seems they forgot about the pot leaf and yin yang signs.
