Orange Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) is the most brightly colored of the milkweed family and is often sold in nurseries for flower gardens. These hardy perennials prefer shaded to full sun in moderately dry, rich to moderately poor soil. Butterflyweed have a cluster of bright orange flowers that appear in July. Plants grow to about two feet high. The flowers are very beneficial to butterflies and other insects. Looks great in flower gardens. It can take 3 to 4 seasons to mature under the best conditions.
